Stamped Concrete Care & Maintenance

Simple habits that keep stamped and decorative concrete looking its best for years.

Six Habits

Keep It Looking New

The First Weeks

Stay off the slab for as long as we tell you, and keep heavy loads off until the concrete has cured.

Clean Gently

Sweep, then rinse or mop with mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals and high-pressure settings that can damage sealer.

Re-Seal on Schedule

Re-seal when water stops beading or the surface looks dull, usually every few years.

Mind the Winter

Use sand for traction. Avoid de-icing salts, especially on new concrete in its first winter.

Wipe Up Spills

Oil, grease and acids stain concrete. Wipe them up quickly.

Protect From Heavy Loads

Keep heavy equipment off patios and walks that were not built for it.

Sealer Matters

Why Re-Sealing Pays Off

Sealer protects color, resists stains and gives the surface its finish. It wears away with sun, traffic and weather. Re-sealing before the surface is worn is quick and inexpensive compared with restoring a worn slab.

We re-seal stamped and colored concrete, including work done by others. Call us for a quick look and we will tell you if it is time.

Care Questions

How long before I can walk on a new slab?

Foot traffic is usually possible within a day or two, but the timing depends on weather and the mix. We will tell you exactly when to stay off and when you can drive on it.

Do I need to seal stamped concrete?

Yes. Sealer protects the color and surface and gives the finish you choose, from matte to glossy. We seal new work and can re-seal older concrete.

How long does stamped concrete last?

A well-built and well-maintained stamped slab is made to last for many years. The base, reinforcement, control joints and sealer all matter, and re-sealing every few years keeps the surface looking its best.

Is stamped concrete slippery?

The textured surface gives good traction, and we can add a slip-resistant additive to the sealer for pool decks, steps and other wet areas.
